7 Oxford hybrid quantum computer observes Aharonov–Bohm effect in quantum simulation¶
University of Oxford physicists used a hybrid quantum computer combining qubits and quantum oscillators to observe the Aharonov–Bohm effect in a lattice gauge theory simulation, published in Nature Physics. The experiment confirmed the 1959 prediction and demonstrated a new capability for simulating matter-field interactions intractable for classical computers.
- Hybrid quantum system uses qubits and quantum oscillators
- Simulated Z2 lattice gauge theory using trapped ions
- Dynamical magnetic flux encoded in entangled qubits rather than fixed background
- Team began development in 2022
- Addresses systems intractable for classical computers, particularly 2D lattice geometries
